Inspired by the need for social reform, Chantal is currently pursuing her MFA in communications design at Pratt Institute in NYC. Recurring themes within her latest work include identity, heritage, socio-cultural contradictions, immigration, acculturation and language.
Born in Israel and raised in Bolivia. She earned a BFA in Graphic Design from Florida Atlantic University in 2006. Fluent in English and Spanish, Chantal joined the Nissan USA team at Zimmerman Advertising and became Art Director for both the American and Hispanic Markets until 2010, producing national campaigns broadcasted in TV, print and interactive, providing brand consistency and recognition, satisfying both cultural settings.
Simultaneously, she has done freelance design work for a diverse array of businesses and organizations since 2003, in fields such as environment, architecture, music and fashion.
To communicate with, for and about today’s hybrid inhabitants, visual language must transmit and interact beyond lingua. My thesis will articulate how communications design can advocate for bicultural exchange to transcend from an antagonizing discourse derived from alienating political policies, to impart empathy and respect for diversity, stand for humaneness and build a sense of community.
