From 1994-1998 I attended Haverford College, graduating with a BA in Art History. My thesis examined the symbiotic relationship between technology and art, from the Lascaux cave paintings to the most recent advances in computer generated imagery and interactive systems.
I began working as a graphic designer while at college, working by hand, cutting and pasting, painstakingly composing and then photocopying the finished product. I began teaching myself the basic principles of design and working with related software programs.
From 2000-2007, I worked at Robert Mann Gallery, a fine art gallery specializing in photography. Eventually, I took on all graphic design responsibilities for the gallery, including web and print design. I developed and managed their digital image database, wrote press releases and coordinated image reproduction with publications such as The New Yorker, Artforum, Blind Spot and Aperture, among others.
Since the spring of 2007, I have been working independently for a small group of regular clients, designing for web and print.
I have a longtime interest in film and film editing. I directed a 16mm short film entitled Grief-Clock, studied film editing at The Edit Center, and worked for eight months as Assistant Editor on The Recruiter, a documentary film directed by Edet Belzberg which was included in the HBO Documentary Film Series. I have also worked at the non-profit organization Film/Video Arts, which supplies independent filmmakers with equipment, resources, and post-production facilities.
I am an avid gamer, from early text and pixel graphic computer games in the 1980s to console and iOS games in recent years. I have always been fascinated by the freedom to interact with virtual worlds, and to become an active participant in a story. I particularly enjoy titles that blur the line between game and art, such as Portal, Bioshock, Braid, Limbo, Sword & Sworcery, Myst and Riven.
